Aqua Lung - How BCs are Made
The BCD was invented around 35 years ago. Before this divers had to literally 'sink or swim', and they found neutral buoyancy to be an only fleeting experience, difficult to achieve and nearly impossible to maintain throughout the course of a dive. Yet it is only by becoming neutrally buoyant that a diver can experience the exhilaration of true weightlessness, and move about with total freedom underwater. It is the BCD that has enabled divers to do this.
